Verification during execution

The tower assembly and the tank installation were executed under defined procedures, with dimensional verification of the components before lifting.

The challenge

The new tail gas treatment plant of the FHVL smelter needed the desulfurization tower and its acid product receiving tank installed and operational.

The client requested an accelerated contract to meet the deadline of Decree 28 on gas emissions, which reduced the window available for assembling the tower and installing the tank.

The solution

Invenio carried out the assembly of the desulfurization tower, made up of three cylindrical bodies, a flat bottom, and a torispherical roof, with the FRP parts and components fabricated by Nerin (China), and the supply and installation of an FRP acid product tank fabricated in-house, with a cage ladder, carbon steel handrails, and anchor supports.

To meet the accelerated schedule, Invenio increased crew staffing and extended work shifts, under procedures PRO-INV-EN-18-11 (Tower Assembly) and PRO-INV-EN-18-12 (Tank Installation).

The result

The tower and the tank were installed within the accelerated schedule, meeting the client’s requirement for the commissioning of the tail gas treatment plant.

Fabrication, installation, and documentation

What was controlled and what was recorded, as documented during execution.

  1. 01Shop fabrication of the FRP acid product tank, with its cage ladder, carbon steel handrails, and anchor supports.
  2. 02Assembly of the three cylindrical bodies, the flat bottom, and the torispherical roof of the desulfurization tower.
  3. 03Dimensional verification of the components before lifting.
  4. 04Lifting and installation of the components in their final position, under procedures PRO-INV-EN-18-11 and PRO-INV-EN-18-12.
  5. 05Increased staffing and extended shifts to meet the Decree 28 deadline.
  6. 06Delivery of as-built assembly and installation documentation.

What comes after commissioning

The tower and the tank are maintained by inspecting the continuity of the chemical barrier and the condition of the joints and anchors, particularly in the zones where tail gases condense.

The inspection plan and the maintenance scope are defined for the service conditions of the system.
